Whether this will be your first vacation in Puerto Vallarta, or you’ve been coming here for years, chances are you find yourself overwhelmed with how to spend your days in paradise. With so many things to do in Puerto Vallarta, you may not know where to begin! First things first, you’ve chosen the hard part – where to stay. Staying at Casa Caleta is an experience like no other; this luxury beachfront villa in Conchas Chinas does not disappoint! While you might decide to spend a few days relaxing in the infinity pool or jacuzzi, soaking up the sun on the beach below, or enjoying all of the other incredible amenities Casa Caleta has to offer, there are still some days in which you’ll most likely want to go and explore what Puerto Vallarta has waiting for you.
Lucky for you, we’ve created a list of the Top 5 Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta!
1. Exploring the Beaches of the South Shore of Puerto Vallarta
Looking for more fun in the sun? The South Shore of Puerto Vallarta is packed full of beaches both big and small for you to enjoy! The best part? Most are only accessible via water taxi, which you can get at Boca de Tomatlán or at the Los Muertos Pier. Riding in a water taxi, or as the locals call it, a panga, is definitely a MUST to truly experience the Puerto Vallarta lifestyle.
Some of our must-see beaches in the South Shore are: Los Colomitos, Madagascar, Las Animas, Quimixto, and Yelapa. These beaches each offer a different ambiance and unique view of the Bahía de Banderas and make for a great day time activity. While Los Colomitos and Madagascar are smaller, more intimate beaches with crystal clear water, Las Animas, Quimixto, and Yelapa are well known for their beach clubs and restaurants that are perfect for those looking to spend the day out and about.
2. The Hike from Boca de Tomatlán to Las Animas Beach
If you’re looking to explore the South Shore beaches but want to squeeze a hike in, there is an incredible hiking trail from Boca de Tomatlán that stretches all the way to Las Animas beach. This shoreline hike offers breathtaking oceanfront views of the Banderas Bay, as well as immerses you in the beautiful and vast jungle of the Sierra Madre mountains. It can take anywhere from one to two hours to hike from La Boca to Las Animas beach. Make sure you stop at all of the beaches along the hiking path to really experience this hike like a local!
Don’t want to hike the trail back to Boca? You can take a water taxi from Las Animas back to Boca de Tomatlán.
3. Food Tours
The food in Puerto Vallarta is simply unparalleled, and food tours are a total fan favorite in Puerto Vallarta. With so many gastronomic options, it can be difficult and overwhelming to try them all!
Lucky for you, there are plenty of food tours in both Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit that not only pose as an incredible day excursion, but as an aid to help you find THE best cuisine that Puerto Vallarta has to offer. There are different tours to choose from, depending on your taste – or hey, do them all!
4. Ziplining, ATVing, and more!
Puerto Vallarta is known for its proximity to the lush Sierra Madre mountains. With that comes an exciting array of activities for those looking to get their adventure on! For our guests who want to explore the extreme outdoor activity options, there are quite a few that will serve as the perfect day excursion. From ziplining to ATV tours and more, there is no shortage of the amount of fun you’ll have!
5. The Romantic Zone and Malecón

The Romantic Zone is great for those looking to walk around town, explore the streets, shop the shops, and dine out at any of the many restaurants located in the historic Romantic Zone. A perfect day excursion that will allow you to really get to know Puerto Vallarta and the area that locals refer to as “Old Town”.
